Green Building Case Studies

The Government of Canada undertakes a number of programs, activities, and research and development projects, as well as offering financial incentives related to sustainable buildings. The newly updated site provides descriptions of these initiatives and links to additional information, including Case Studies carried out by Light House in the spring of 2006.

Complete buildings case studies have been compiled for 19 buildings across Canada. Each of the studies include sections on initial process, finance, land use, site and water, energy, materials, indoor environment, and ratings and awards.

CMHC Case Studies

CMHC has some great case studies as well. Particularly see the case study of Malmö, Sweden; the Soka-Bau Green Roof Case Study, Wiesbaden Germany; the Green Roof Herb Garden Case Study at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, Vancouver, British Columbia; and the Dutch Apartment Building which has the largest array of solar collectors in Europe.

EQuilibrium Homes

CMHC also has some great case studies of EQuilibrium homes, which combine resource- and energy-efficient technologies in order to reduce their environmental impact.
