What is this product?
Vida Cork flooring is made of bark from the cork oak tree. It comes in click-together planks or glue-down tiles. It is prefinished with a natural wax-based finish. It is water resistant and comes in a variety of styles and colours.
What is sustainable about this product?
Cork is a sustainable building product because it does not require killing the trees to make the product. Cork comes from the bark of a cork oak tree, which is stripped off, leaving the rest of the tree intact.
Vida Cork consists of compressed natural cork over a formaldehyde-free HDF core and cork fusion. It is prefinished with a plant-based, solvent-free hardwax oil.

What is this product?
Cork has been used to make
beautiful floors for over 130 years. As well as being soft and a
pleasant surface underfoot, cork serves functionally with its high
durability, sound absorbing, hypoallergenic, anti-static, and fire
retardant characteristics. Cork also insulates against both heat and
cold and is resistant to mold, mildew and moisture damage. Cork is used
as a residential and commercial flooring surface as well as a support
layer and sound barrier under wood, ceramic, and other flooring
applications. It is virtually limitless with design flexibility and
easy to install. It will last a lifetime with little maintenance.
What is sustainable about this product?
Conserves Natural Resources:
Cork
is a renewable and natural resource, typically manually harvested every
nine or ten years. The first cork bark will not be harvested from a
tree until it is 25-30 years old, and considered a mature tree. Cork is
the outer bark of the cork oak tree, a member of the Mediterranean
beech family. Removing the bark does not harm the tree. The cork
re-grows completely with a smoother texture each time. The cork oak
trees live from 150-200 years, safely allowing up to 20 harvests during
its life cycle.
Contributes to a Safe, Healthy Built Environment:
The
urethane used has extremely low VOCs (off gas). It is quiet, warm and,
to the surprise of many, excellent in kitchens and bathrooms. It is
also soft and has some give making it perfect for children's play areas.
