Matthew Chan
Title: Green Building Researcher and Energy Specialist
What do you do at Light House?
I am responsible for Light House’s energy services, providing dedicated building energy analysis, energy modeling, auditing and assessment expertise (Using Natural Resources Canada's EE4, HOT2000 and RETScreen building energy simulation software) in both new and existing building projects.
Why do you think you are qualified to do this?
With my background in Electrical Engineering and Building Automation System (HVAC/R, Lighting and Access) Control for commercial, industrial, institutional, healthcare and recreational buildings, as a Certified Energy Manager, LEED Accredited Professional Engineer-In-Training and Sustainable Building Advisor, I believe that I am qualified to provide energy management and consulting services.
Before Light House, where did you work?
I worked at Circon Systems as a project engineer who is responsible for HVAC and Building Automation System (HVAC/R, Lighting and Access) Control Design for commercial, industrial, institutional, healthcare and recreational buildings.
Describe a fun evening
I went to the beach at English Bay with my friends few weeks ago. We had potluck there; meanwhile, we were playing Poker and UNO, and we watched the firework subsequently. Moreover, I went to Harrison Hot Spring with my friends last long weekend. We played beach volleyball until sunset and then BBQ on the beach.
What book are you currently reading?
Philosophy of Sustainable Design, Jason McLennan (Who is Canadian, by the way)
Do you have a role model?
No.
