Green Building Project Manager - Light House

Light House is looking for a dynamic project manager with a minimum of 5 years experience in building consulting and/or the energy efficiency sector to assist us in growing our green building consulting services.

We are looking for someone who is a flexible, team-oriented multi-tasker with an appetite for a fast-paced, project-oriented environment. You are familiar with green building rating systems such as LEED, BOMA BESt, etc. You will have strong technical skills, an aptitude for quantitative analysis and enthusiasm for project development, client services, education and professional mentoring. Working for the Light House Sustainable Building Centre requires that you share our passion for green building and sustainable living.

This is a permanent full time position. Salary range is between $55,000 - $70,000 based on experience. You report to the Executive Director and will be responsible for:

  • Support consultants, builders and developers by leading the documentation process for green building projects using LEED, REAP and other rating systems.
  • Coach builders and consultants on the implementation of green building strategies.
  • Provide green building solutions through research and technical analysis of policies, technologies, products, strategies and solutions.
  • Develop and deliver green building education and training programs for businesses, designers, builders, developers and municipal officials with support from other Light House staff members.
  • Identify business development opportunities and write proposals.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor degree or technical diploma in building design, construction, engineering, or building science. We are looking for the right person and are open to energy, design and general green building professionals.
  • Familiarity with green building design, structures and construction with ability to interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Working familiarity with LEED although LEED accreditation is not a requirement
  • A minimum of five years practical work experience of which at least two must be in a project management/leadership role.
  • Excellent verbal communications, presentation and interpersonal skills 
  • An aptitude for (and interest in) the technical aspects of green buildings is essential.
  • Working knowledge of RETScreen is an advantage

Light House Sustainable Building Centre is an enterprising non-profit society which provides British Columbians with an information point of service where the public and industry professionals can obtain information on green building practices, policies, and projects as well as green building professionals. We offer education, training and outreach to industry and the public that will foster a deeper awareness of and commitment to sustainable building practices. We also help to advance public sector programs and initiatives through research, development and implementation of tools and resources applicable to and optimized for the British Columbian construction and real estate industries. Through a combination of funded programs and consulting services we work to catalyze the sustainable building sector in British Columbia.

Light House is Canada’s first sustainable building centre. Located in beautiful Vancouver British Columbia, Light House serves as BC’s go-to location for everything related to green building and is involved with green building projects throughout BC and at all levels – from working with homeowners on renovation projects designed to save water and energy, to assisting large local developers with the documentation necessary to achieve green building ratings such as LEED. The Position

Light House is seeking a dynamic individual to take on the role of Business and Policy Analyst to provide economic research, policy development and assist with strategic business development initiatives.

You will be responsible for business development and lead consulting projects related to green building policy, practice and programs. You will have the ability to assess the implications of proposed policy changes and relevant legislation and regulations on the green building sector, and can assess the extent to which policies are achieving their intended goals. You will be comfortable writing detailed analysis and reports related to policies and administrative practices, and be able to advise on policy options and make specific recommendations for changes to policies, practices, and relevant legislation and regulations.

In addition, you will have an aptitude for developing business strategies for industry and elicit, analyze and report on input from relevant groups to evolve business strategy and planning priorities. You will furthermore provide leadership in the development of business services in response to identified needs and assess the impact of policy requirements to inform Light House business development activities. You are well acquainted with the construction and real estate sectors.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Managing and coordinating policy development research and projects.
  2. Managing and coordinating economic development and industry liaison.
  3. Specific programs and projects as directed by the Executive Director
  4. Providing strategic liaison for the development and growth of key partnerships with industry organizations, associations and others.
  5. Working with the Light House team to create economic development goals.
  6. Providing business administration and economic development services through consultation, research and development of proposal calls
  7. Support business development and fund raising initiatives as directed by the Executive Director
  8. Participate in education and outreach initiatives as directed by the Executive Director

You are also responsible for nurturing and developing partnerships that will aid Light House in the implementation of programs and technical resources for the building industry related to sustainable building and sustainable community development.

You report to the Executive Director.

Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in business, economics, public policy or a related discipline
  • A minimum of three years’ related experience
  • A broad knowledge of environmental concerns in the building and construction sectors
  • An ability to synthesize, evaluate and integrate information from multiple sources and provide recommendations for policy formulation
  • Excellent analytical, research, administrative and consulting abilities
  • Well-developed communication and report writing skills
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
