The issue is partly to do with the total waste material generated but more to do with diverting it from landfill. In the GVRD about 67%% of construction waste is diverted to other uses. On some projects (not houses) we are getting over 90% diversion rates.

Light House Exhibition - Ideas That Last
Let's think about ideas that last. For one thing, they don't stay as
ideas. They become embedded in the way we see the world: from cultural
signposts to everyday utility items. Underground parking, email,
snowboards, disposable coffee cups yoga have all become recognizable
aspects of 21st Century life in Vancouver.
What about buildings?
To ease the pressure on global resources and climate change while
meeting the needs of a growing population, we need to think differently
about what, where and how we build. We also need to do this together.
Ideas That Last was the SBC's inaugural exhibition of completed sustainable building projects showcasing the breadth of sustainable building expertise in our region.
