North Cariboo College
North Cariboo Community College is a new 4,396m2 applied academic and research facility located in Quesnel, BC. Designed by Larry McFarland Architects and Stantec Consulting, the College is aiming for LEED Gold Certification.
Energy efficiency strategies such as in-slab radiant heating and cooling, exhaust heat recovery, concrete earth-tube for pre-tempering supply air, natural ventilation and energy-efficient lighting contribute to 66% savings in energy consumption compared to a standard building. Water conservation efforts resulted in an overall savings of 41%.
Perhaps the most important outcome is the social implication for the entire community. The facility serves as a model of sustainability and demonstrates a diverse range of green building technologies to visitors, students, and faculty.
