Hanvey House

The Hanvey House is an award-winning sustainable renovation by Brantwood Design and built by TQ Construction in North Vancouver, BC. The 1,300sf 30 year-old rancher was remodeled and extended by 300sf to provide more space for a family of four while reducing overall energy consumption by 30% and water use by 50%. The project followed CMHC HealthyHousing™ principles and diverted 50% of the construction waste from landfill.

Full details of the features of this project can be found on the US DOE High Performance Building database. Even though the house was renovated in 2004, it captured the public's imagination. Today, it is still a sought-after story with media crews visiting from across Canada, Korea, the US and the UK. The house is scheduled to appear in a number of TV shows in 2008 including HGTV's "World's Greenest Homes".

The attached files are a selection of media stories. They include an article about the house in Eco-Structure magazine (Jan 2006), a detailed list of the strategies and resources and an article in the Globe and Mail (May 2006).
