Title: Summer Outreach Specialist: LiveSmartBC program

What do you do at Light House?
I’m working on a joint project between Light House and the City of Vancouver’s Sustainability Group to promote the new LiveSmart BC Energy Efficiency Incentives for homeowners.

Why do you think you are qualified to do this?
I’ve been volunteering at Light House for almost 2 years. I was one of the interns that developed the Green Building 101 course so I feel quite comfortable discussing green homes and energy efficiency projects with homeowners. I’m also a graduate student working on a Masters degree in Environmental Education and Communication so it’s neat to put the techniques I’ve learned into practice. I think most importantly, though, I am really passionate about environmental sustainability. Passion drives everything.

Before Light House, where did you work?
For the past 5 years I’ve been working at Vancouver Community College doing program administration in one of the ESL departments. Part of this work included student engagement, curriculum development and program evaluation. I’m also a member of the College’s Environmental Sustainability Advisory Group and the City of North Vancouver’s Parks and Environment Advisory Committee.

Describe a fun evening
There are so many ways to spend a fun evening. In the summer, one of my favourites is hanging out at the beach, having a lakeside barbeque with family and friends. In the winter, it’s relaxing fireside after a day of snowshoeing. I also love movies!

What book are you currently reading?
‘The Kite Runner’ by Khaled Hosseini
‘A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier’ by Ishmael Beah

Do you have a role model?
My grandfather taught me the value of the natural world. His influence is a huge part of why I am who I am today.
