Sr. Community Energy Planner - Community Energy Association

The Community Energy Association is seeking a dynamic Senior Community Energy Planner to manage and deliver an outreach and support program to British Columbia local governments. We are seeking a strong communicator with proven organizational skills, and ability to build local government capacity, especially with planners, engineers and councils in multiple areas related to climate and energy such as urban planning, transportation planning, district energy and renewable energy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Outreach, Engagement and Communication
• Establish ongoing liaison with elected officials and staff
• Provide assistance to local governments exploring innovative practices in regional growth strategies, OCPs and neighbourhood plans, bylaws, regulations, checklists and other tools to manage urban form, transportation, buildings and renewable energy
• Design and deliver presentations and workshops for local government councils and staff, and major conferences
• Conduct promotional activities at conferences and tradeshows
2. Research and Writing
• Research best practices and innovations in energy planning, energy efficiency and alternative energy, as these relate to land use, transportation, buildings, energy supply and other aspects of community infrastructure
• Write focused materials designed for local governments, for print and web
• Maintain and update materials
3. Partnership Building and Networking
• Foster partnership-building amongst local governments, CEA members, provincial ministries, non-profits and others
4. Organizational Support
• Coordinate and supervise contractors as needed
• Support the Executive Director with fundraising and other management activities
• Provide regular reports
• Support the CEA staff team; provide flexibility in appreciating and assisting to meet demands of a small non-profit organization.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• 2-4 years experience in local government planning, community energy or related field
• Analytical and systems thinking skills; proven ability to research, synthesize and communicate energy and climate change topics in a concise, compelling manner
• Excellent, demonstrated oral and writing skills; confident, motivating and inspiring communicator; ability to write for local government audiences

• Practical understanding of smart growth, sustainable transportation, energy efficiency and alternative energy
• Strong project management skills; prioritization and self-managing multiple concurrent work-streams in dynamic and flexible team environment
• Good listening and interpretive skills.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Graduate degree in community planning, environmental studies, law, engineering, architecture, business or related field
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This is a 12-month term (with 6-month probation), full-time (negotiable) employee position, commencing as soon as possible, with a strong likelihood of 2-3 year extension, depending on funding availability and suitability of the employee.
Compensation is in the range of $60,000-70,000+, plus benefits, commensurate with experience. Vancouver location is preferred, though other locations will be considered. A home office may be possible. Significant travel province-wide will be required. The Senior Community Energy Planner reports to the Executive Director and is responsible to the CEA Board.
