Fall 2009 - Summer 2010 Job Postings

Sessional Instructors, Course Supervisors and Tutor/Markers Required
All courses are subject to budgetary approval and enrollment.

The Centre for Sustainable Community Development (formerly the Community Economic Development Centre) will
require classroom Sessional Instructors and distance education Supervisors and Tutor Markers for the 2009-2010
academic year (Fall 2009, Spring 2010 and Summer 2010).

Classroom courses are at Harbour Centre campus,
downtown Vancouver, in the evenings (Fall & Spring, once weekly; Summer, twice weekly). For more information on

Sessional Instructor Qualifications (classroom courses):

1) Post graduate degree and/or outstanding related teaching experience.

2) Relevant experience in Sustainable Community Development, with knowledge of principles, policies and
practices of community-based development.

3) * SCD 301-4 will also be offered in Spring 2010 as part of a cohort in the SFU Liberal and Business Studies
Program at the Kitimat Valley Institute over three Friday-Saturday sessions. The instructor’s travel and
accommodation will be provided.

4) ** Applicants are invited to submit proposals for a Special Topics course in the Summer 2010 Intersession (May-
June 2010).

Recent Special Topics courses addressed strategic planning and local food systems. Please include a
description of the proposed course of no more than one page in length. Selected applicants will be invited to
submit full course proposals.
Supervisors and Tutor/Marker Requirements & Qualifications (distance courses):
Duties and responsibilities of Supervisors and Tutor/ Markers are outlined in the collective agreement between SFU
and the TSSU, including, but not limited to:

1) The Tutor/Marker will establish at least two
(2) office hours per week, one during normal weekday office hours
for telephone and face-to-face contact and the other during evening hours for telephone contact.

2) Bachelor’s or higher Degree or appropriate certification and some teaching experience.

3) Competence in oral and written English.

4) Background in Sustainable Community Development and research/field work methods.

The SCD curriculum has been updated and revised since 2007, and all instructors are expected to teach the new
