DUTIES: The successful candidate:

* Acts as the coordinator of the Columbia River Sturgeon
management plan of the water license requirements program
* Is responsible for the coordination, contract management and
delivery of a number of research and monitoring programs
* Manages portions of the conservation culture program
* Monitors life history stages
* Tracks population dynamics
* Evaluates habitat requirements
* Tests recruitment failure hypotheses
* Manages mitigative responses
* Builds relationships and works closely with members of the Upper
Columbia White Sturgeon Recovery Initiative; the technical working group of the initiative functions as an advisory body
* Liaises and communicates with the water license requirements
team and internal stakeholders
* Will be required to interact and build relationships with
regulators, First Nations, community leaders, special interests/public stakeholders and the media, and as such must be recognized as a knowledgeable and respected professional in the environmental field
* Will be involved in project quality control and safety
management
* Works closely with a financial analyst to track and manage
labour and budget costs on a monthly and quarterly basis using Microsoft Project.


QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have:

* A graduate degree in fisheries biology or equivalent
* A minimum of eight to ten years experience in the conduct of
investigative studies, including the coordination of multi-disciplinary teams
* Knowledge of sturgeon or related biology


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

* The position requires the candidate to travel throughout the
Columbia basin, including to remote field sites, and elsewhere in BC and the north western US for meetings
* Preference will be given to those candidates with working
knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation
* Prior experience with work on sturgeon or related species is
desired
* Previous experience in related research and monitoring is
desired
* Experience with species at risk protocols and hypotheses testing
is desired
* Extensive experience with interior BC aquatic ecosystems, and
related biology and habitat assessment and restoration techniques is desired
* Basic knowledge of BC Hydro's generation and water storage
facility operations is preferred
* Experience in budget planning, office administration, people
management and contract management is desired
* Knowledge of statistical sampling requirements and analyses and
related database applications is an asset
* Well developed team leadership, interpersonal, presentation and
communication skills are desired
* Experience in social issues management and media relations is
beneficial
* Knowledge of project tracking using Microsoft Project is an
asset
* A valid membership or ability to obtain same in the BC College
of Applied Biology or a similar professional association recognized by BC Hydro is desired.
