We have an exciting secondment opportunity for a Project Manager to lead the development of TransLink's rapid transit network, and help build better communities.
 
Reporting to the Manager, Project Planning, the Project Manager will lead the technical development and functional design for the proposed Broadway West (Commercial Drive to University of British Columbia) and Surrey (King George Hwy to Guildford via Surrey Centre) Rapid Transit lines. The Broadway West project will commence in summer 2007 and the Surrey project in Fall 2008. Specifically, the Project Manager will lead the technical development of the work program which includes: establishing project objectives and evaluation criteria, undertaking base transportation and land use data collection and analysis;
developing forecasting tools and rapid transit alternatives. 
 
As this position involves planning work that is complex and multi-disciplinary, working with highly creative teams, leadership, superior communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively complete deliverables under compressed timelines are essential. 
 
Other areas of responsibilities include:
 
*    Developing the project scope and work plan for projects with
budgets totaling   $1.5 million;

*    Leading and managing a variety of work teams comprised of
internal and external stakeholders, which may include consultants and
municipal staff; 
*    Developing, chairing and/or participating in various technical
and steering committees;
*    Developing terms of reference; 
*    Leading and/or participating n cross-functional work teams;
designing and facilitating workshops, charrettes and planning
meetings;
*    Coordinating public and stakeholder involvement;
*    Conducting technical/policy research and analysis; preparing
reports and presentations;
*    Making decision recommendations and presentations to senior
decision makers. 
 
A University degree in Planning, or a planning-related field (engineering, geography, etc.), preferably at the Master's level, with at least 5 plus years related professional work experience.  Professional experience in several of the following areas: transportation planning/engineering (including rapid transit
planning), land use planning, urban design, project management, capital project planning, strategic planning and/or public involvement is required. 
 
We are looking for well-rounded, multi-disciplinary project manager, with experience in managing projects and leading cross-functional teams. Direct work experience in researching, planning and/or implementing rapid transit, as well as, knowledge of the range of rapid transit technologies and their appropriate application is required. In addition, experience facilitating senior-level meetings
and working with multiple partners/stakeholders on complex policy or infrastructure projects is a must. Knowledge of transportation planning in the Greater Vancouver Area is an asset.
