Job Posting - Planner, Community Assistance Program
Smart Growth BC is a province-wide non-profit organization working with
communities, local governments, professionals and industry sectors in
advancing more sustainable land development policies and practices: compact
communities, sustainable transportation, affordable housing, preservation of
greenspace and farmland, and more efficient use of infrastructure.
The Community Assistance Program (CAP) is a core program of Smart Growth BC,
providing advice, policy recommendations, resources and presentations to
community organizations and local governments on smart growth practices. The
CAP Planner will provide assistance with general smart growth strategies as
well as technical assistance on specific smart growth policies, e.g.
affordable housing.
We are looking for a dynamic person to join the Smart Growth BC team to
increase our outreach and assistance capacity. Our ideal CAP Planner looks
like this:
Masters Degree in Planning or a combination of experience and related
education. Other disciplines will be considered.
2-4 years work experience in planning or a related field.
Knowledge of affordable housing issues.
Knowledge of land economics.
Effective public speaker.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong facilitation skills.
Strong understanding of local government land use planning processes and
policy.
Ability to speak passionately about smart growth and sustainability, and can
get others excited about it.
Aptitude for research in smart growth issues.
Fundraising experience.
A personal fit with smart growth values.
This is a one-year, full-time, salaried position with benefits, with
possibility of extension, depending on funding.
