Increase Retention through Training - Canadian Centre for Environmental Practice
Increase Retention through the Certificate in Environmental Practice
Retention is an increasing challenge in the environment industry. According to the 2006 Canadian Environmental Practitioners Report, 36% of practitioners will leave their employers in the next five years and 14% of senior management will retire.
The Certificate in Environmental Practice offered by the Canadian Centre for Environmental Education (CCEE) can be the solution to this predicament. In the report, practitioners noted professional development is a motivation to remain with a company. The Certificate can both motivate employees to stay with their current employer and train them to move into the upper management positions that will be available due to retirement.
How does the certificate benefit you as an employer?
> It addresses the concerns that employees lack "soft skills" and training in current environmental topics of interest
- The certificate includes general courses
- The certificate is "market driven" — concentrations are aligned with the national occupational standards that were created by industry
> It will motivate employees to remain with your company through professional development and the possibility of career advancement
> It will train employees to move into upper management positions that are opening up due to retirement
How do employees obtain the certificate?
> Via Distance — courses can be scheduled around work
> Through Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)
- Mid-career employees can receive credit for relevant work experience and other professional development courses
- Recent graduates can receive up transfer credit for relevant university/college
