Homeowner's guide to building a sustainble home in the Pacific Northwest

daniellew's picture

Do you know any sites that describe how to build your own sustainable house? I am thinking of building into a hillside and want every feature that will work in the Pacific Northwest. I would like a greenhouse attached, passive and active solar, etc. I would like some of it to be cob if possible. Any information on wind power, micro-hydro for the home-owner??

Ans: There is a huge amount of information on our website about how to build a sustainable House. First go in through “Connect” and go to the “Discussion Forums” and you could start with the “Ask a Question Get and Answer” section: http://www.sustainablebuildingcentre.com/forums/ask_a_question_get_an_an...

Of course, this is not the first time this question has been asked.  Check out Light House's reply in April 2006: http://www.sustainablebuildingcentre.com/forum-topic/where_to_find_infor.... The case studies there will get you started, and there are extensive directories showing how and what green products are and where to buy them.
