Green Home: Buy and Sell

Looking to buy a green home? Want to sell one?

Well, the SBC isn't offering real estate brokerage services, for one thing we don't have a license, but we do want to help people find green homes, help builders sell green homes and point out some of the latest and greenest cool stuff hitting the street.

Please tell us about the homes you have seen, heard about or lived in. We would love to be able to show how valuable a a dedicated green home listing service could be.

Built Green Certified Homes

Richmond based Pacific Western Developments (2006) Limited is currently working on three homes which will be built using the Built Green standard for housing. These homes will showcase energy efficiency, sustainable building materials, and improved indoor air quality.

One of the homes, already underway, is presold. There are two homes which will be available in Spring 2007, which will be located in the vibrant and popular community of Steveston village. These homes will have features such as locally sourced materials, low VOC paints and floor coverings, energy eifficient heating/cooling systems, CFL lighting throughout, Power Smart Low-E windows, and much more.

As one of B.C.'s few certified Built Green builders, we are more than happy to discuss the benefits if these homes with interested parties. We also do general contracting for people looking for a builder. More information on the Built Green program can be found at www.builtgreencanada.ca, or on our website at www.pac-west.ca.

FIVE

First off, there is "FIVE" at Main and King Edward. in Vancouver, developed by our very good friend Robert Brown. These five little heritage houses have been lovingly restored to their former glory with new foundations, new siding, etc. Importantly they achieve very high standards in energy efficiency, occupant health and the use of eco-friendly materials.

FIVE

Sadly, all five of these little cuties are sold already. However, you can always call Robert at 604 678 9024 to find out where and when he plans to build next.

Jameson House:

At the other ed of the price scale is Jameson House: a 21st Century architectural masterpiece in the making. The presentation centre on West Hastings St in Vancouver is well worth a visit if only to see how architects can properly detail given a chance. Check out the most beautiful dual-flush toilet button ever.

Of course, suites are selling for around $1,400 per square foot, so that two storey penthouse with roof gardens which would suit my family perfectly is so expensive the prices weren’t published.

Despite the lack of information about its sustainability features in the presentation centre, the Jameson promises to be very eco-friendly. The website is much more forth coming. Suites enjoy natural ventilation, energy and water conservation strategies and a most gorgeous bead-blasted steel under-counter waste management system.

I should add that if you have heard the rumor that the kitchen island that is on a hydraulic system so it can move up and down at a touch of a button: it is quite true and totally cool!
