'green' fireplaces...is there such a thing?

I have a small 200sq/ft room that I'm renovating with no current heat source and I wonder if there is such a thing as a 'green' fireplace which would be able to heat the room in the winter.
The room will be primarily windows (floor to ceiling) on 3 sides, triple pane for efficiency.
Any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated.
