DUTIES: The successful candidate:

* Plans, organizes and undertakes a variety of research and investigations related to complex research projects and gathers data and information, recommends study approach and prepares input into the identification of methodologies required to deal with the associated project issues

* Provides input into the assessment of requirements for new and revised environmental programs and processes, evaluates operational, legislative and policy implications and develops program/process options and implementation strategies

* Contributes to the formation of policy and assessment of legislative issues related to environmental resource management

* Provides technical advice and direction to staff and managers within the strategic business units regarding environmental resource management standards and issues

* Participates in internal and external consultation processes with respect to the assessment of key environmental issues and environmental management strategies

* Provides technical direction to and performs all the functions of the lower level environmental research coordinator job

* Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have:

* Completion of a bachelors degree in environmental sciences or equivalent plus three to four years progressively more responsible experience in the environmental job stream, including experience in conducting studies and research projects.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

* Environment and Sustainability is leading the development and implementation of BC Hydro's climate change strategy

* The successful candidate will work with the climate change project team to collaborate with business groups with responsibilities related to Greenhouse Gas (GHG) management

* Specific responsibilities will include identifying requirements for data collection and information reporting related to GHG emissions or reductions; supporting the development and maintenance of BC Hydro's GHG inventory in accordance with relevant protocols including spreadsheet development, maintenance, calculations, and analysis including regression, correlation, other trend analysis, and charts; participating in emissions forecasting and target-setting; identifying/researching emissions and reduction opportunities in business processes and tracking results over time; researching clean/green energy opportunities and new policies pertaining to GHG mitigation and climate change adaptation; developing and maintaining spreadsheets, databases and other data management tools and reports consistent with the requirements of BC Hydro's environmental management system

* Examples of other work projects, in addition to the above-noted analysis, include supporting the implementation of BC Hydro's carbon neutral strategy (employee engagement), drafting content for communication pieces for review, and coordinating meetings (internal / external) as required

* Excellent computer skills with experience in Microsoft Excel, Power Point and Project, research and analytical skills are an asset

* Demonstrated oral, written, interpersonal, presentation, leadership and customer service skills are desired

* Good planning, analytical and problem-solving skills are desired

* Courses in project management will be an asset

* The successful applicant will work effectively as a team member or independently

* Knowledge and understanding of the electricity and energy industry and the regulatory/social/strategic environment within which BC Hydro operates, as well as BC Hydro's structures, operations, business acumen and judgment, will be an asset.
