Educational Courses in Sustainable Design

I am looking for courses on sustainable design.

Answer: The Sustainable Building Centre does a number of short sustainable building courses through ICBA and the construction associations. The next session will be a 2 hour green building and LEED for contractors at Buildex Feb 9th.

On April 28, Light House launched a Green Building 101 workshop, which provides an introduction to sustainable building practices and materials for homeowners. Details on GB101 can be found here: http://www.sustainablebuildingcentre.com/connect/Green_Building_101_Work... If you are interested in registering, you can do so online by clicking one of the links at the bottom of that page.

If you are interested in being “green certified”, a program we’ll soon be offering is the Sustainable Building Advisor Program. It is designed for professionals who want intensive and wide ranging instruction on green building practices. Graduating students will be able to use the designation SBA, Sustainable Building Advisor. Those who elect to take a national exam and pass will be able to use CSBA, Certified Sustainable Building Advisor. See http://www.sustainablebuildingcentre.com/act/sustainable_building_adviso... for more details.

In addition, Douglas College and BCIT offer courses. BCIT runs a green roof course through their school of construction and the environment faculty; you can contact them at www.greenroof.bcit.ca. At Douglas College, they have the Building Environmental Systems program (BES) geared towards building managers, operators and technicians. Their website is www.douglas.bc.ca/science/bes.html, and their phone number is (604) 527-5222.
