Education Program Director - Check Your Head: The Youth Global Education Network

The guiding principle of Check Your Head is to educate, empower and engage youth to act and make choices as active members of their local and global communities. Its educational work promotes critical thinking and action around economic globalization as it relates to issues of social and environmental justice. CYH is a non-profit society that provides education, resources, training and support for youth, who then facilitate workshops, organize events and coordinate projects promoting education and action around issues of social and environmental justice.

Position title: Education Program Director

Job summary: Reporting to the Executive Director, you will be responsible for the Education Programming at Check Your Head.

Position details: This is a 37 hrs/week, $32,000/yr staff position with benefits (including medical and dental) and a monthly transit pass.

Location: Downtown Vancouver and travel within BC.

Desired start date: March 2, 2009

Responsibilities include:

• Hire, train and supervise education program staff

• Responsible for grant writing duties for the education program

• Responsibility for developing, implementing and being accountable for education project budgets.

• Developing new projects for the education portion of CYH and raising the funds for those projects

• Admin tasks related to education programming

• Foster current relationships and develop new partnerships and projects with other organizations

• Develop and deliver workshops on issues connected to social and environmental justice

• Representing CYH at events

• Project coordination

• Develop print and online outreach materials

• Help with the recycling

• Talking to the media

• General office duties

Qualifications/Experience:

• Program coordination experience

• Workshop facilitation and development experience

• Experience writing funding proposals

• Experience working with young people

• Interest and passion around issues of social and environmental justice

• Ability to work in a flexible, team-oriented environment

• Strong communication skills

• Ability to work on several projects at the same time

• Creative mindset

• Highly organized

• Valid BC drivers license
