Call for Volunteers--BCSEA Climate Change Game
Description: We need enthusiastic and committed volunteers to support Delivery Coordinators carrying out the Climate Change Showdown workshops. The workshops will be delivered in classrooms during school hours (8am-3pm) in the GVRD, CRD, Abbotsford, Squamish, Nelson, Dawson Creek, Prince George, Kamloops and Kelowna in the up-coming school year (September 2007-June 2008). We need volunteers who are willing to commit to working with our Delivery Coordinators in the fall, and should be willing to volunteer for one or two sessions per month.
Number of volunteers needed: 1-2 volunteers per workshop, 60 volunteers in total.
Desired skills / qualifications: Clear spoken communication skills (English), experience working with children, friendly and outspoken manner, enjoy interacting with children and promoting actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Training and benefits to volunteers: Training will be provided prior to the start of the program in September. Volunteers will gain experience in environmental education, facilitation and working with a non-profit organization. In addition, you will be part of a huge undertaking to deliver the message of action on Climate Change to 500 classes and 12,000 families across the province during the coming school year. This will reduce target community greenhouse gas emissions (approx. 7,500 annual tonnes) and improve air quality.
To notify us that you are interested, please contact Outi Alestalo, our Volunteer Coordinator for the project, to have your name added to a list so that we can let you know about upcoming training sessions that will be held in the fall.
