Divergent. Brilliant. Articulate. Mundane. Hip. Sensible. Stodgy. Known. Unexpressed. Curious. Imaginative. Concrete. Every voice counts. Check out Sustainable Building Centre on the Earthblog, a conversation about urban sustainability and the future of Greater Vancouver.

Sustainability seat

Earthblog features the daily writings of 4 provocative bloggers, dozens of community organizations and thousands of commentators.

June 15th – 30th 2006, join an online conversation at www.earthblog.ca to discuss social, cultural, economic and environmental priorities and directions in the Greater Vancouver Region. Featuring the daily writings of four opinionated bloggers, two fearless commentators, dozens of passionate community voices and thousands of residents.

Earthblog.ca takes its inspiration from the 1976 UN Habitat Conference, an event that sparked discussion and debate on the state and form of cities. The occasion of the 30th anniversary of the UN Habitat Conference, the World Urban Forum, propels this discussion forward in an online format.

On a daily basis, four thinkers and advocates,  Gordon Price (SFU City Program), Sudha Krishna (the Nimble Company), Lyndsay Poaps (youngest elected official in Vancouver's history), and Cheeying Ho (ED Smart Growth BC) will explore the priorities for the region.

Two commentators will facilitate the dialogue. Prem Gill is the host of ColourTV and Director of Public Affairs and Multicultural Programming at CityTV. Rex Weyler is a journalist, writer, and ecologist who co-founded Greenpeace.

From dance to farming, and transit to youth leadership, community organizations and activists will be contributing their vision to the conversation: Better Environmentally Sound Transportation (BEST), Carnegie Centre, Check Your Head, Ecosmart, Environmental Youth Alliance, Farm Folk City Folk, Georgia Strait Alliance, GROOTS Canada/Women at the WUF, Influence, Interspiritual Centre, Knowledgeable Aboriginal Youth Association, New West Community Development Association, the Lower Mainland Network for Affordable Housing, Public Dreams Society, the Sustainability Group City of Vancouver, the Sustainable Building Centre, the Land Conservancy, the Social Planning and Research Council of BC, Tyee Online, Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration Society, and Volunteer Vancouver.

Residents and visitors of the Vancouver Region, we invite you to log-in, read, comment, debate and participate in the discussion and vision for a sustainable region.

note from Jacinda @ earthblog

Wow - two weeks later and there are oodles of provocative, interesting, delightfully-rendered, wide-variety, insight-driven posts about Vancouver, the region and hot topics. We exceeded our expectations of 10,000 hits, and from so many unexpected corners of the world. The "conversation" has certainly been engaging.

Your effort and time put into the Earthblog project has been much appreciated. We hope that it has provided a venue for expression, for sharing ideas, a place to learn "new media" tools and been rewarding to each of you and organization.

Thank you again for all your effort and willingness to "speak out" about the issues, the challenges, the beauty and the vision you have for the region.
