CEP Coordinator Position Description (Volunteer Position)

The CEP Coordinator plays a key role in carrying out CEP activities.   The position presents an opportunity for an emerging Environmental Professional in Vancouver to expand their network of contacts, and to gain experience coordinating events and managing databases. It will also provide an excellent opportunity to learn how non-profit societies are managed and coordinated. This would be a one-year volunteer commitment to support CEP through the following responsibilities:

Ø  manage the members database (an access database) and listservsØ  respond to email requestsØ  assist in coordinating CEP events o    develop event invitationo    distribute emails to members and friends regarding upcoming events and confirm RSVPso    liaise with CEP webmaster to update websiteo    liaise with the event venue regarding event logisticso    register participants at events with the help of other volunteersØ  attend a  board meeting approximately every six weeks and record meeting minutesØ  maintain financial records Ø  provide feedback on how to improve processes and proceduresØ  assist in coordinating the Annual General MeetingThese tasks represent approximately a 20 hr time commitment per month. Upon completion of the coordinator position, the individual will help to train his/her replacement and may have the opportunity to join the CEP Board. 

CEP is looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual who is detail-oriented, has experience with Microsoft Office Word and Excel, and possesses problem-solving skills and initiative.

The position will commence in September 2009, but the new coordinator will also need to attend a planning session on July 5, 2009 (approximately noon to 4pm).  Priority will be given to CEP members.

Connecting Environmental Professionals (CEP) is a not-for-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to promoting opportunities for capacity building, career development and networking. CEP members include working professionals and future professionals (including students!) from government, business, not-for-profit organizations, and associations.

CEP was launched in 2002, and is a chapter of the national organization 'Young Environmental Professionals'. CEP Vancouver now has more than 200 members and the national organization has more than 700, with active chapters also in Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, and Toronto.
