Guido Wimmers, Dipl.Ing. LEED AP, Equilibrium Consulting Inc.

Dr. Guido Wimmers of Equilibrium Consulting Inc. will discuss “Building Better Buildings”. He will explain what makes a building environmentally friendly, economical, comfortable, healthy, long lasting and energy efficient. He will also give an overview about the “European way”, the so called “Passivhaus” and state of the art R&D in Europe. Passive houses use up to 90% less energy than conventional buildings through insulation, airtightness, solar gains and heat recovery.

Bio - Dr. Guido Wimmers completed his dissertation, “Implementation of energy saving technologies at the renovation of old buildings with a historical value”, at the University of Innsbruck in 2007. Prior to moving to Canada, Guido worked as a consultant designing and building low energy and passive houses in Austria, Germany and Italy. He currently works at Equilibrium consulting, implementing passive house technology in Canada. Guido has presented over 80 lectures at national and international conventions concerning the issue of low energy and passive housing.

Light House: Sustainable Building Centre is located at 1575 Johnston Street, just East of the Public Market in the heart of Granville Island. Our centre is on the second floor and accessible via the glass door and staircase on the Southwest corner of the building.
