Future of our Energies
A seminar 'Future of our Energies' will be presented at the Chemical Engineering Build, 2360 East Mall at UBC; this Thursday Nov. 8th at 11:00 am, Room 204 CHBE.
The Future of our Energies
Presenter: Lars Rose
Topics:
The demonstration / lecture / workshop will focus on three issues:
1) What will be some of the effects of climate change and how might they
affect us?
2) Where does energy come from, and what options can we choose from?
3) Developments in alternative fuels and fuel cell technology advances.
Key issues preventing large-scale spread of alternative energy technology; cost, reliability, durability.
Lars Rose, MSc, University of British Columbia Department of Materials Engineering, National Research Council -- Institute for Fuel Cell Innovation. He studied, worked and researched in the UK, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark and not only enjoys science outreach to the general public, but thinks it's an essential part of a scientist's obligation to spread parts of his knowledge into the community.
He is a coordinator for the national Let's Talk Science Partnership Program, and has been featured as a science broadcaster in various magazines, and TV.
His fuel cell demo was featured at the UBC sustainability days and career fairs, the Applied Science "Engineer for one day", the UBC Graduate Students Society Lecture Series, TRIUMF Saturday Science series, the HR Macmillan Spacecentre Sustainability Week, on Daily Planet, Discovery Channel and with Bob MacDonald on CBC, as well as at many other occasions throughout British Columbia.
One of his lectures on the general topic of "The Future of Energy and Alternative Energy Technology" is available online: http://www.youtube.com/user/UBCLTScom
