"Residential Energy Conservation"

Bruce Cullen

Bruce Cullen, Manager, Small Energy Group

This presentation will provide an outline of residential
energy conservation programs including the history of the programs across North
America, current provincial and federal initiatives, the future of
the programs and some helpful energy saving tips that homeowners can take away
with them.

In the next few years, BC Hydro will be installing ‘Smart
Meters’ in every one of its customers homes in B.C. These meters will provide
the utility with the option of incorporating ‘Time of Use’ billing. We’ll talk
about the ‘Smart Meter’ program and how to prepare your home for this change.

Programs focusing on renewables, such as solar hot water, pv
solar and thermal heating are being designed for future applications. We’ll
discuss if they could be a good addition to your home’s energy supply and rate
their effectiveness versus simple energy conservation measures.

Time will be set aside to discuss specific home energy use
questions from the audience.
