Dr. David Chapman, professor of geophysics at the University of Utah and renowned speaker on global warming, reviews the scientific evidence that climate change is caused by human activity.
LEED® Canada-NC 1.1 for new construction (LEED-NC) is a comprehensive, voluntary, market-driven green building rating system. It evaluates performance on a range of ecological and human health issues from a whole building perspective, providing a definitive benchmark for what constitutes ‘a green building.’ This intensive, one-day workshop provides a technical overview of the LEED Canada-NC 1.1.

In response to overwhelming interest, we offer a two-hour, non-technical “Green Building 101” for homeowners interested in learning how to “green” their home!
Participants will gain a general understanding of green design ideas, issues and processes, develop a set of personal green goals for their home, and leave with a practical resource workbook. Confused about where to start, who to talk to and what questions to ask? Then this course is for you!
Metro Vancouver’s BuildSmart program is preparing for a seminar to be held at Buildex Vancouver on February 11th and 12th of 2009 on the topic of waste reduction initiatives on construction and renovation sites. The seminar’s purpose is to highlight exemplary waste reduction initiatives on construction projects by profiling two local projects that have achieved high waste diversion rates. The session will be in the format of a panel discussion consisting of the owner, architect, general contractors and waste hauler.

Even as many organizations strive to purchase from businesses that employ or are
owned by First Nations, they find that suppliers often cannot meet their
purchasing requirements. However, overcoming the challenges is important since
the success of aboriginal purchasing can have important community impacts. For
instance, when VANOC contracted the Lil’wat Nation for several projects, they
helped reduce seasonal unemployment rates, and created increased capacity in the
band through training and skills development.

MacMillan Space Centre to launch the Earth Alive Series of sustainability films. The Earth Alive Series takes place on the evenings of Feb. 24 to 28 at the Planetarium (H.R.
