Mar 13 2010 - 2:00pm

"Heating Your Home"

Moore-Babicki Residence 2

Babicki-Moore Residence, Edgemont Village, North Vancouver

Light House will present four case studies of homes that participated in our 2010 Green Building Challenge: the Norman Residence, the Hayter Residence, the Babicki-Moore Residence, the Mah Residence, and the Kerchum Residence.  Come learn about the energy, water and waste reductions achieved, challenges encountered, and lessons learned by the owners of each project.

Whether you are building a new home, planning a major renovation or a few minor upgrades, there are many things to consider in order to optimize the comfort and efficiency of your home including: passive design strategies, upgrading your building envelope and heating system, and utilizing renewable energy.

The workshop will be followed by a tour of the Babicki-Moore Residence.

Presenters:

Robin Grier is an architectural designer, and a LEED accredited professional with a wide-range of professional experience in both Eastern Canada and the Pacific Northwest, where she has lived since 1995. She is driven by a deep passion and commitment to holistic and ecological design, including passive design strategies, natural building materials and construction methods. In June 2008, she began providing technical research, mostly in the area of energy-efficiency, in support of HomeSpa, Light House’s consulting service for homeowners. This background enhanced her recent advisory work for the 2010 Green Building Challenge. She is steadily broadening the scope of her green building expertise, and was one of the original participants in Light House’s Green Building Documentation course for commercial and multi-unit residential buildings.

Bridget Lane is a Civil Structural engineer with an interest in environmentally conscious building design. Her interest in the field led her to volunteer with Light House where she has been assisting with the 2010 Green Building Challenge projects. Beyond her experience working for a control demand ventilation company and a short course on green roofs, most of her knowledge is self taught or acquired through the people she has meet at Light House.
